EU to Stand Firm in Trade Dispute, Says Top Official
The European Union is prepared to take a firm stance in the ongoing trade dispute with the United States, according to Manfred Weber, the leader of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament. In an interview with Bild, Weber emphasized the importance of maintaining a united front, stating that the EU should “not fall for Trump’s provocative negotiating strategy, but rather stick to our line.”
While the EU is willing to engage in dialogue, Weber also emphasized the need for countermeasures in the event of a trade war. The CSU politician noted that the EU and the US are economically on a par and therefore, the EU will not be pushed around. Weber believes that US President Donald Trump is now realizing that he is unable to divide the EU.
