A German political party, the Left’s electoral list, failed to clear the 5% threshold and enter the Bundestag in the recent federal election. According to preliminary results, the party received 4.97% of the total votes. Fabio De Masi, a European Parliament member for the party, commented on the result, stating that the party is still short of the 5% mark by a small margin.
An investigation into the voting process has revealed irregularities in at least one polling station in North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the Westfälischer Anzeiger. The Kreiswahlausschuss, or the local election committee, will re-convene to re-examine the results in the Soest constituency.
Following the announcement, it was decided that further checks of the election outcome will be conducted in 63 additional constituencies in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Frankfurter Rundschau reported that the party was just 13,400 votes short of entering the Bundestag and that the party may consider legal action against the results.
