A German politician, Paula Piechotta of the Green party, has expressed concerns that the Health Minister, Nina Warken of the Christian Democratic Union, might dispose of documents related to the procurement of masks under her predecessor and party colleague, Jens Spahn.
Piechotta, in an interview with the Welt newspaper, referred to the report by special investigator Margaretha Sudhof of the Social Democratic Party, stating that not only is the minister unwilling to release a report, but also that loose collections of documents on mask procurement remain unorganized at the Health Ministry. She warned that if Warken were to dispose of important information now, it would be impossible to verify later and that the situation is becoming increasingly urgent.
Piechotta has called for Spahn and the entire Union to come clean, stating that otherwise, all of them, not just Spahn, will be held accountable by the public for the waste of taxpayers’ money. She argued that a crisis does not justify the minister issuing a blank check, to be paid for by the public through their taxes.
