In a recent interview, Vice-Minister-President of Thuringia Katja Wolf, a member of the left-wing party, the Left (Die Linke), expressed her support for the party’s co-founder, Sahra Wagenknecht, even in the event of the party’s failure to enter the German Bundestag. Wolf described Wagenknecht as the party’s flagship, emphasizing her prominent role within the party.
Wolf also highlighted the party’s growth and diversification, stating that the Left is no longer a one-woman show. The party’s name, Wolf noted, was initially chosen for a specific founding situation, but it does not necessarily need to be changed immediately after the Bundestag election. She emphasized that the name change is a matter of perspective, not directly related to the election’s outcome.
In doing so, Wolf rebuffed internal party critics who had accused the party leadership of promoting a personality cult and lacking in democracy. Wolf firmly denied these allegations, stating that the Left is not an autocratic party.
