VW and Rivian Expand Software Partnership in Berlin

Volkswagen is significantly expanding its joint venture with US electric vehicle technology company Rivian, focusing on software development. According to reports from business magazine Capital, the collaboration is poised for international expansion, with a potential first European location planned for Berlin later this year.

This joint venture holds substantial strategic importance for Volkswagen, serving as a key hub for the development of central software controls for its future vehicle models. The partnership leverages Rivian’s expertise in advanced automotive software, particularly in areas like battery management and driver assistance systems.

Reports indicate Volkswagen has committed investments totaling nearly $6 billion USD for the collaboration, positioning the German automotive giant to become a primary shareholder in Rivian, alongside technology conglomerate Amazon. The existing joint venture already employs approximately 1,100 full-time personnel and the planned expansion signals a deepening commitment to Rivian’s technology and a significant growth trajectory for its software development operations.
