A German politician, Jessica Tatti, a member of the Bundestag for the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), is calling for a halt to the administration of the BioNTech/Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine until the issue of DNA contamination is resolved. This comes after a publication by a team led by Ulrike Kämmerer found that the DNA in the Pfizer vaccine exceeded the acceptable limit by a wide margin.
The issue is the presence of foreign DNA in the vaccine, which could potentially integrate into human cells and cause side effects. A genetic expert, Phillip Buckhaults, had previously stated that he found foreign DNA in the vaccine during a lab test and believed it could be causing harm.
Tatti is calling for a moratorium on the vaccine’s use until the contamination issue is resolved, citing the Kämmerer study and the potential for harm to those who have already been vaccinated. She has also requested information on the government’s plan to address the issue and has been met with a denial of any plans to halt the vaccine’s use.
The German government has stated that the study in question does not provide robust data to support the claim of DNA contamination and that the processes used in the study do not provide evidence for the integration of foreign DNA into human cells. Tatti disagrees, stating that the government is working against the interests of those who have been harmed by the vaccine and in favor of the vaccine manufacturers.
The issue of vaccine side effects has also been raised, with the government publishing a list of 974,931 reported cases of suspected side effects, often involving the same person multiple times. Tatti has expressed concerns over the completeness of the list and the timing of the deadline for filing a claim for damages, citing a three-year statute of limitations under the German Civil Code.
