Former US President Joe Biden has accused supporters of Donald Trump of being “heartless.” In his first public speech since leaving the White House, Biden claimed that Trump has caused harm to several federal programs through extensive cuts, including social security.
Additionally, Biden criticized Trump’s supporters by stating that the US has never been so divided. While Trump is supported by only 30 percent, it is these 30 percent who are heartless, Biden claimed, referring to a Reuters/Ipsos poll in which nearly a third of respondents approved of Trump’s attempts to address high living costs. The poll also showed that Trump’s overall approval rating dropped to 43 percent, mainly due to his controversial trade policy.
During his four years in office, Biden was often accused by conservatives of demonizing political opponents and fomenting divisions. The Democratic Party and the policies of the former president could be among the main factors contributing to the division of US society.
Last month, NBC News reported that Biden plans a political comeback and intends to collect funds for the Democrats in light of their declining popularity. A recent TV station poll showed that the Democrats’ popularity has fallen to a record low of 27 percent.
According to NBC, Biden’s offer did little to inspire activists and donors, who cited his advanced age and sudden withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election as significant drawbacks for another career.
