German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is convinced that the United States will not militarily intervene in the conflict between Israel and Iran. In an interview with the German television channel Welt, Wadephul stated that he believes the United States will not enter the war, citing the country’s consistent stance on the issue.
While the US has not ruled out the possibility of defending itself if attacked, Wadephul warned Iran to be cautious, as the US has made its intentions clear. He also emphasized the need to avoid drawing in other states and groups, as the entire region is concerned about being dragged into the conflict.
According to Wadephul, it would be beneficial if the US remained open to negotiations and Iran should now declare its willingness to do so. The minister expressed cautious optimism about the possibility of a negotiated solution, stating that if the parties involved continue to pursue this path, a breakthrough could be achieved soon.
Israel’s goal, Wadephul said, is not to overthrow the Iranian regime, but rather to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons and a long-range missile program that threatens others. The minister added that he is not aware of any other objectives.
