A 33-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on the B14 federal highway in Obereichenbach, a district of Ansbach, on Sunday morning. According to the Frankish Regional Newspaper, the incident occurred at around 7:30 am.
A 19-year-old driver of a Toyota, operated by the US military police, was driving from Ansbach to Katterbach when the vehicle veered off the road to the right, crossing a green strip and entering the pedestrian and cycling path. The car then struck the pedestrian, causing severe injuries. Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Toyota remained unharmed in the accident. Police officers from the Ansbach police station took statements at the scene, with the assistance of an expert appointed by the prosecutor’s office. The highway was closed in both directions until 11 am.
In a statement, the Ansbach US garrison expressed its full cooperation in the investigation of the incident and pledged to work together with German law enforcement authorities. The US garrison in Ansbach expressed its deepest condolences to all parties and relatives involved in the tragic accident.
