US Envoy's Third Visit to Russia Brings Speculation of Putin Talks

US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has traveled to Russia on Friday, according to news portal Axios citing informed sources. Additionally, data from the website Flightradar24 shows that a Gulfstream aircraft associated with Witkoff has landed in Saint Petersburg. According to the publication, Witkoff plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Witkoff’s arrival in Russia. Moscow will inform soon whether Putin will hold a meeting with the US official.

Thus, Witkoff is already traveling to Russia for the third time. Previously, he visited the country on February 11 and March 13. In February, Witkoff went to Russia to pick up the released US citizen Marc Fogel. In March, he was received by Putin behind closed doors.

Last week, Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President’s Economic Envoy, visited Washington, where he met with Witkoff among others. Dmitriev was the highest-ranking representative of Russia to visit the US since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022.
