US Political Shift Makes Europe More Attractive for Top Talent with European Roots
The recent developments in US politics are making Europe a more attractive option for top professionals who have previously worked in the US but have European roots, according to Georg Larch, a partner at the international recruitment firm Boyden. “The great allure of the US is crumbling” Larch said in an interview with the Spiegel, “and European companies can now more easily poach top talent in the US that was previously unattainable.” A key factor behind this shift is the energy policy. US President Donald Trump’s plan to halt the construction of new wind turbines and shift the country’s focus back to oil and gas has made many top professionals in the renewable energy sector more open to a move to Germany or Europe.
“Many top professionals in the renewable energy sector are ‘conviction-driven'” Larch said, “and are now more open to a move to Germany or Europe.” At the same time, many energy companies and wind turbine manufacturers are expanding and becoming more international in Germany and Europe.
The increase in military spending in Germany and Europe is also drawing top talent, with the stock value of companies like Rheinmetall recently rising significantly. “European companies are generally more highly valued on the stock market than they were a few months ago” Larch said, “and this is an indicator of a new attractiveness of the old continent: the stock market is often ahead of the economy and the general mood then follows later.
