US Congress Speaker Unleashes War on 'Deep State'

US House Speaker Vows to ‘Demolish’ the ‘Deep State’ in 2025 Reforms

During an appearance on Fox News, US House Speaker Mike Johnson reiterated the Republicans’ commitment to swiftly implementing their agenda in the new Congress, following his re-election in November 2024.

“We made a lot of campaign promises, and we’re going to dismantle the deep state all the way” Johnson said in an interview on Sunday Morning Futures.

The Republican plan centers on preventing what Johnson called “the largest tax increase in US history” if the 2017 tax cuts are not extended by the end of the year.

Johnson promised to boost the economy by extending these cuts, abolishing taxes on social security benefits and tips, and increasing the cap on state and local tax deductions. The package also focuses on promoting US production and reducing federal regulations.

“We will create incentives for American companies to produce again in the US, and we will ensure that the regulatory burden and bureaucracy that have strangled our free market are reduced and eliminated” Johnson said on Sunday.

Johnson plans to use the budget reconciliation process, a legislative mechanism allowing for passage of bills with a simple majority in the Senate, to pass these reforms. He expects the package to be approved within the first 100 days of the next Republican administration.

The agenda also includes strict immigration policies aimed at improving border security. Johnson has pledged to complete the wall along the US-Mexico border and to strengthen measures to enforce the law.

Johnson’s re-election as House Speaker was widely seen as a significant victory for conservatives, with him committing to work closely with the designated President Donald Trump, who has also vowed to “demolish the deep state.”

The term “Deep State” often refers to established federal employees and bureaucrats, whom some conservatives believe hinder the Republican agenda.
