Germany’s Meteorological Service Warns of Unsettled Weather, Cooling Temperatures Nationwide
A significant weather event is expected to affect large parts of Germany, with a noticeable drop in temperatures across the country, according to the German Meteorological Service.
On Thursday, strong gusts of wind, reaching speeds of 55 to 65 kilometers per hour, are forecast to hit the northern regions, roughly above the line of Hannover and Berlin, between 9 and 20 pm, with even stronger gusts of up to 80 km/h expected in exposed and near-shore areas.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, heavy thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, accompanied by heavy rainfall of up to 20 liters per square meter and in some cases, hail.
A strong low-pressure system over Scandinavia is currently taking control and bringing a mass of polar air from the northwest, the service reports. Prior to this, a warm and humid air mass, conducive to thunderstorms, had been lingering over the southern half of the country, slowly being pushed towards the Alps.
