German politician Ines Schwerdtner, the chair of the Left party, attributes the party’s recent surge in polls to its renewed focus on team-building and a unified leadership. In an interview with RTL and ntv, Schwerdtner praised the party’s top candidates, Heidi Reichinnek and Jan van Aken, calling them “very credible.” She emphasized the importance of the party presenting a united front, stating, “I believe that’s what the people notice.” According to Schwerdtner, the party’s leadership is once again “bright and outward-facing.”
Schwerdtner also touched on the topic of migration, advocating for Germany to become a modern immigration country. She emphasized the need for integration, saying, “We should be a modern immigration country, where people have the opportunity to work from day one.” She suggested that people can be best integrated by being able to work alongside others, becoming a part of the society. Schwerdtner called for more language courses and teachers, stating that this would help achieve the goal of integrating newcomers. Germany is facing a shortage of skilled workers and needs laborers, she noted, adding, “That’s why we should establish a welcoming culture, where people feel secure in living here, together with everyone.
