Union's Secret Diplomacy Exposed?

The chairman of the Christian Social Union’s (CSU) Landesgruppe, Alexander Dobrindt, has mentioned the possibility of talks with the Taliban in the context of the recent attack in Munich. When asked if a government led by the Union would engage in dialogue with the Taliban, Dobrindt stated in an interview with the Mediengruppe Bayern that “all levers must be used to ensure deportations, also to Afghanistan and Syria, are carried out.” He mentioned the development of aid, the visa system and economic cooperation as examples of such measures.

Dobrindt emphasized that the “security interest of our society must be the top priority, not the protection of criminals and extremists.” He called for a “tough course of action against illegal migration.” For those who cannot be deported, he advocated for indefinite detention, stating that “those who are criminals, Islamists, or a threat can be taken into extended detention and, from there, can always travel to their home country, but not return to freedom in Germany.”

Dobrindt criticized the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Greens for their claims that such a policy is not feasible, stating that their arguments have “fallen apart.” He also mentioned a broken promise by Finance Minister Olaf Scholz regarding a planned deportation flight to Afghanistan and vowed to implement a new migration policy after the next election.
