After a parliamentary election victory, the CDU and CSU want to significantly improve the work of the coalition committee. According to the “Rheinische Post” (Monday edition), the committee is to be given its own office in the Chancellery for this purpose.
The goal is to coordinate and prepare the committee’s decision papers, it is said in Union circles. The CSU state group will also decide on this at its winter meeting in Seeon. “We want to turn the coalition committee into the control center of coalition work” it says in the resolution paper for the meeting, as reported by the newspaper.
The coalition committee must be a decision-making body, “that meets regularly, instead of an emergency committee that only convenes when the fronts are already hardened.” The coalition agreement should also be “dynamized.” After the implementation of a rapid program, “we will agree on further tasks and priorities in the coalition” the state group says.
