The leader of IG Metall, Christiane Benner, has voiced cautious support for a new investment initiative launched by German industry, while simultaneously issuing a warning to participating corporations regarding unrealistic expectations.
Benner acknowledged the initiative’s focus on bolstering infrastructure, strengthening the economy and securing employment as a positive direction. She implied a call for companies currently relocating operations, laying off workers and contributing to industrial decline to emulate the initiative’s principles.
However, the union leader cautioned against expecting unfulfilled concessions in return for investment. “Those who anticipate a red carpet and a lack of obligations based on investment promises are operating under a mistaken perception” Benner stated. The statement suggests a desire for accountability and a clear understanding of commitments from companies participating in the program.
