German Chancellor’s Potential Successor Denies Ambition for Federal Ministry Post
In an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, Markus Söder, the leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Premier of Bavaria, has ruled out the possibility of becoming a federal minister in the event of a Union election victory. Söder emphasized that as the party leader and regional premier, he can better represent Bavarian interests and still contribute to the country’s recovery. He also plans to be actively involved in the coalition committee as party leader.
When asked if he might become the next President of Germany, Söder dismissed the notion, drawing an analogy to football, stating that not everyone is suited to be a striker and not everyone can play as a defender. He believes he is more of a “maker” than a “critic”, implying that he is more effective in a leadership role than in a critical one.
