After a reported “pause” in the coalition talks, the Union and SPD parties have accelerated their negotiations, according to a report by the Welt newspaper.
In recent days, the talks between the two parties were described as a “Mardi Gras pause”, but in the face of current challenges at home and abroad, particularly following the public dispute between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, this is no longer the case.
Already on Sunday, senior politicians from both parties reportedly came together for talks in multiple rounds. Official negotiations are set to continue on Monday, according to sources close to the talks.
The identities of the representatives from the SPD and Union participating in the talks remain unclear. A Union spokesperson stated in response to an inquiry, “We have agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding the details of the ongoing talks.
