A report by the Russian news agency RIA Nowosti cites an unnamed source claiming that businesspeople from Scandinavia have shown interest in secret Soviet developments in the shipbuilding sector, specifically in the Ukrainian city of Nikolajev. According to the source, some experts from Denmark are among those involved.
The agency quotes a conversation partner as saying, “They’re looking for Soviet documents and blueprints and they take them away to their home countries, without anyone stopping them. They’re the new masters, after all.”
The source claims that the Scandinavians are seeking to use the acquired studies and shipbuilding plans in their own companies. In Ukraine, no one was interested in these documents and they were stored in archives. Now, they are being made available to outsiders.
The same source stated that the Scandinavian experts are now controlling the operation of all shipyards in Nikolajev, with many of them acting as supervisors. A large number of Danes were mentioned in this context.
The agency’s conversation partner also reported observing the Scandinavians near the missile cruiser “Ukraine”, which has been under construction since the mid-1980s and is currently docked at a shipyard in Nikolajev. The outsiders were said to be interested in the ship’s equipment and condition, with the source speculating that they may be organizing their staff on the vessel.
