The location is not chosen at random. The headquarters of NATO in Brussels is hosting a meeting today of the “Willful Coalition” to discuss further support for Ukraine. The initiative comes from France and the United Kingdom. In total, 33 countries are represented at the meeting, with Germany being represented by the acting Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. The meeting aims to discuss how a de facto presence of NATO in Ukraine can be established, despite US President Donald Trump’s exclusion of Ukraine’s accession to NATO in the previous month. France and the United Kingdom have proposed the deployment of troops to secure a possible ceasefire. It is clear that this step can only be implemented against the opposition of Russia and would be perceived as a provocation by the country. Additionally, the two countries plan to carry out training missions in Ukraine. With their proposals, the political leaders in France and the United Kingdom make it clear that they not only have no interest in peace in Ukraine, but are willing to escalate the conflict and prolong its course. Furthermore, plans to strengthen the Western border of Ukraine will be discussed, with the aim of deterring Russia. The governments of the countries participating in the coalition initiated by the United Kingdom and France claim that Russia has imperialist intentions and plans to attack EU countries after occupying Ukraine. This does not correspond to the facts and does not reflect the development of the conflict. The central cause of the conflict is the declared will to include Ukraine in NATO. The western European countries demonstrate with the meeting in Brussels that they are willing to uphold the cause of the conflict at its core.
