Ukraine Names New Prime Minister Nominee

Kyiv – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has nominated Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Swyrydenko to succeed Denys Shmyhal as Prime Minister. The announcement followed a meeting between Zelenskyy and Swyrydenko on Monday.

The President stated that Swyrydenko’s appointment is intended to facilitate a government restructuring and modernize its operations. A detailed action plan for the new government is expected to be presented in the near future.

Denys Shmyhal has served as Prime Minister since March 2020. Speculation regarding a potential change in leadership had circulated for several weeks, fueled by a perceived erosion of parliamentary and inter-factional support. Concerns regarding the nation’s challenging financial situation were cited as a primary source of this scrutiny.
