UK Inflation Surges To 3.8 Percent

The pace of consumer price increases in the United Kingdom accelerated recently, according to data released Wednesday by the Office for National Statistics. The annual inflation rate for July 2025 reached 3.8 percent, up from 3.6 percent recorded in June. This marks the highest figure since January 2024, when the rate stood at 4.0 percent.

Month-on-month, consumer prices rose by 0.1 percent in July. Notably, core inflation-which excludes volatile components like energy, food, alcohol and tobacco-remained consistent with the overall figure, registering 3.8 percent. This represents a slight increase from the 3.7 percent recorded in June.

The transport sector contributed most significantly to the change in the annual rate, with a notable increase in airfares playing a key role.
