Two Men Die in Wolgast Harbor Incident, Investigation Underway
In a tragic incident, two men lost their lives in the Wolgast harbor on Thursday evening. According to the Neubrandenburg Police, a 27-year-old angler plunged into the harbor at around 23:40 hours, the cause of which remains unknown.
A passing group of people noticed the incident and a 40-year-old man from the group jumped into the water to attempt a rescue. Unfortunately, both men ended up underwater.
A massive search operation was launched, involving a water police boat, rescue swimmers from the police, federal police officers, firefighters, drones equipped with thermal imaging, THW divers and a rescue helicopter.
After approximately two and a half hours, the divers managed to recover the two lifeless bodies from the water. A medical team was only able to confirm the deaths of the two men. A crisis intervention team was dispatched to support the witnesses of the tragedy. The Kriminaldauerdienst Anklam has taken over the investigation into the cause of the incident.
