Two young women have died in a suspected illegal street race in Ludwigsburg on Thursday evening, according to the police and public prosecutor’s office. The incident occurred around 8 pm, as first reports suggest.
Two vehicles, allegedly racing with excessive speed, were heading in the direction of the Ludwigsburg-Süd autobahn access point on Schwieberdinger Street. A collision occurred with a third vehicle, which had turned onto the street from a petrol station and was occupied by the two young women. The vehicle in which the two occupants were seated was thrown off the road and became wedged between two trees, resulting in severe injuries for the two passengers, who ultimately died at the scene of the accident.
On the order of the public prosecutor’s office, the driver of the vehicle that collided with the one occupied by the two young women was provisionally arrested. The driver of the other vehicle, possibly involved in the race, initially fled the scene.
