The United States Senate has confirmed Tulsi Gabbard as the new Director of National Intelligence, with a vote of 52 in favor and 48 against. Senator Mitch McConnell was the only Republican to vote against her nomination.
Gabbard’s nomination was a highly contentious and risky personnel decision by the new US President. As a former Democrat and a vocal critic of Washington’s foreign policy, Gabbard has been a thorn in the side of the US establishment. She has spoken out against the CIA’s practices and has been critical of the US’s support for the Kiev regime. Her past meetings with Bashar al-Assad and her support for Edward Snowden have also raised eyebrows. For a time, she was even on the CIA’s watchlists.
