Hamburg’s First Mayor, Peter Tschentscher, of the Social Democratic Party, has expressed support for Hamburg’s potential re-submission as a bid for the Olympic Games, possibly in a tandem bid with Berlin.
“I would find it great if Hamburg were to participate in the German Olympic Sports Federation’s plans and bid for the Olympic Games again at the IOC” Tschentscher told the Welt am Sonntag. He views the Olympics as a “great opportunity” for Hamburg.
Before making a final decision, Tschentscher intends to consult with Hamburgers once more, but he remains optimistic that the outcome would be different from the 2015 vote. “The requirements for the hosting venues have been eased, and the investments would be significantly lower – especially if we were to do it in a tandem bid with Berlin” he said. “Paris has shown that the Olympic Games can be done differently today – and we can do that too.
