The German government has denied reports suggesting that subsidies for gas storage fill-ups are planned.
Although the Gas Market Trading Platform, Trading Hub Europe (THE), presented possible instruments for gas storage fill-ups, a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Economics said on Monday that these would be “misleadingly referred to as ‘subsidies'”. There is also no decision on whether the THE proposals are considered necessary, the statement added.
In late January, media reports emerged suggesting that the ministry and the Federal Network Agency were in talks over possible subsidies for companies filling up gas storage facilities. The background was concerns from traders that the German gas storage facilities were not being filled to a sufficient level during the summer months.
Earlier last week, the Ministry of Economics described the gas supply after overcoming dependence on Russia as “much more resilient than before the energy crisis”. The supply security is ensured, a spokesperson said on Friday.
