US and European Leaders Discuss Path to Peace in Ukraine After Putin Meeting
Following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump briefed European partners on the content of their discussion and the ways to achieve a ceasefire and peace in Ukraine, according to the German government’s spokesperson, Stefan Kornelius.
The meeting, which took place on Monday evening, brought together the leaders of Finland, France, Ukraine, Italy and the European Commission, as well as the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz.
The US President and European leaders reportedly agreed on the next steps, coordinating the negotiation process closely and aiming for a further technical meeting. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to closely accompanying Ukraine on the path to a ceasefire, with the European participants announcing plans to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions.
