Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to the leadership of the Federal Security Service (FSB) on Thursday, discussing the ongoing Russian-American negotiations and their prospects. Contacts with the administration of US President Donald Trump are “giving rise to certain hopes” the head of state said, even if there is resistance and obstacles in the West.
“I understand that not everyone is satisfied with the resumption of American-Russian relations. Some elites will try to disrupt the dialogue. It is important for us to take this into account and prevent such attempts” Putin said.
The dialogue with the US is encouraging, according to Putin, as the Trump administration has abandoned harmful stereotypes and messianic ideas that have led to the current crises.
“The initial contacts with the new US administration give cause for hope. There is a mutual willingness to work on the restoration of inter-state relations and the gradual solution of the numerous systemic and strategic problems in the architecture of the world order, which have accumulated. It was these problems that provoked the Ukrainian and other crises. It is important that our current partners show pragmatism, that they abandon many stereotypes, the so-called ‘rules’ and messianic ideas that have led to the crisis in international relations, which have also begun to destroy the Western community from within” Putin said.
A part of the Western elites remains determined to maintain the instability in the world, Putin emphasized and will try to disrupt or endanger the dialogue that has begun.
The president attributed the changes on the global stage largely to the resilience of the Russian military on the battlefield.
“They are the ones who, through their bravery, through their daily victories, have created the conditions for the beginning of a serious dialogue, a dialogue on the solution of both the Ukrainian and other crises” Putin said.
Putin also added that Moscow has never refused proposals to resolve the Ukraine conflict peacefully.
