Trump Sets Conditions for Russia Sanctions

The former US President Donald Trump has indicated his willingness to impose “comprehensive sanctions” against Russia, contingent on the unanimous agreement of all NATO member states and a collective cessation of Russian oil purchases.

In a letter disseminated through his Truth Social platform and addressed to all NATO nations, Trump expressed concerns regarding the alliance’s commitment to securing victory in the ongoing conflict. He stated that the current level of engagement falls short of a full dedication, significantly weakening the negotiating position and leverage against Russia.

Additionally, Trump proposed the implementation of tariffs ranging from 50 to 100 percent on Chinese imports, with the understanding that these tariffs would be fully rescinded upon the resolution of the war in Ukraine. He posited that such measures would disrupt what he described as China’s considerable influence and control over Russia, thereby aiding in the termination of the conflict.

Referring to the war as “Biden and Zelenskyy’s war” Trump affirmed his willingness to assist in its conclusion and the preservation of lives on both sides. He explicitly linked the swiftness of the conflict’s end and the potential for saving lives to the collective actions of NATO, warning that failure to adhere to his proposals would be a misuse of time, energy and financial resources belonging to the United States.
