Despite the latest military threats from the future US President Donald Trump, SPD leader Lars Klingbeil still considers the US to be Germany’s most important partner. Trump’s problematic ultimatums on Greenland and the Panama Canal showed that cooperation with him will be challenging, Klingbeil told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Thursday editions). “Despite that, I am very clear: America remains for us the internationally most important partner.”
This, however, does not mean that Germany will simply accept Trump’s demands and statements. “We also have interests and we can best represent them if we act in a united Europe” the SPD leader said. “That is what matters most right now.
