US President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with the United Kingdom on Thursday. However, the British government quickly downplayed the claim.
In a tweet on his personal platform, Trump wrote, “The trade deal with the United Kingdom is a comprehensive deal that will strengthen the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come. Given our long-standing history and connection, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as the first announcement. Many more agreements, which are in a serious negotiating stage, will follow.” Later in the afternoon, Trump plans to present further details.
However, the spokesperson for the British Prime Minister Keir said that the talks on a possible deal were still ongoing. They will provide an update later in the day, according to the spokesperson of the BBC, insisting that any reduction in food standards would be a “red line” for a possible US trade agreement.
