Truck traffic on motorway sections subject to tolls in Germany has increased by 0.5% in December 2024 compared to the previous month, and by 3.0% compared to the same month last year, according to the Federal Agency for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The truck traffic index on motorways, in the view of the authorities, provides early indications of the current economic development in the industry. As economic activity generates and requires traffic volumes, a significant connection exists between the truck traffic index and indicators of economic activity, particularly the production index in the manufacturing industry, according to the statisticians.
