Bundesverkehrsminister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) has emphasized the need for urgency in the renovation of transportation infrastructure during his first public appearance. As reported in the “Neue Ruhr/Neue Rhein Zeitung” (Friday edition), Schnieder, who was connected to the NRW-Mobilitätskongress in Gelsenkirchen via video, avoided specifying certain transport modes, projects, or federal states. He stated that he will adhere to the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan adopted nine years ago, but will reassess individual measures.
Schnieder also re-affirmed his support for revising the Germany ticket, stating: “We need a mechanism that determines how the funds are distributed. By October, we need a legal determination of the implementation steps so that it is also guaranteed for 2026.”
The spokesperson of the Verkehrsbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR), Oliver Wittke, told the NRZ that there is a need for automatic and timely price adjustments linked to an index for the Germany ticket.
