Germany’s Transport Minister, Patrick Schnieder, last travelled by train exactly one month ago, a spokesperson for the Ministry confirmed on Monday. The trip was to Prague, where he met with his Czech counterpart. Eurocity trains operate several times daily between Berlin and the Czech capital, a service jointly run with Czech Railways.
The Minister’s next train journey is imminent, forming the concluding leg of a press tour this Thursday. Schnieder is scheduled to travel by train from Gerolstein towards Cologne.
Last week, the Minister announced an impending leadership change at the national rail operator, Deutsche Bahn. The contract of current CEO Richard Lutz, which runs until 2027, will be terminated by mutual agreement. The search for a successor is already underway. Details regarding severance arrangements for Lutz have not yet been disclosed, with the government indicating the supervisory board will take the lead on this matter.
