A woman was severely injured in a bus in Gera on Sunday after being set on fire. Emergency responders were deployed and the investigation is ongoing, according to a police spokesperson. The suspected perpetrator fled the scene. The woman was taken to a specialized hospital and is in a life-threatening condition. A “large number of police patrols” are searching for the individual.
Initial reports suggest that the man poured a flammable liquid on the woman in the bus and set her on fire. The other passengers then activated the emergency stop and the doors opened, allowing the perpetrator to escape. The bus driver extinguished the flames. Several passengers required psychological support.
The police launched a comprehensive investigation and manhunt. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday morning and as the day went on, investigators gathered more evidence, suggesting that the suspect may be the 46-year-old husband of the victim. The police have now issued a public appeal for information. According to the authorities, the suspect is Tengizi K., a man of Georgian origin, approximately 1.80 meters tall, wearing a black work jacket with a blue logo and a black ski mask at the time of the incident. The police stated that, at the moment, it cannot be ruled out that the suspect poses a threat to the public.
