'Traffic Revolution' Ignoring Economic Consequences!

In the eyes of the crafts, the transportation transition is taking too little account of the economic and delivery traffic.

“We are conducting experiments in transportation policy, without thinking through the consequences” said Jörg Dittrich, President of the Crafts Association, to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”. “In Munich and Berlin, there are streets where craftsmen can no longer accept orders. Why? Because they can no longer park anywhere” Dittrich explained. “One has implemented a new transportation policy, built bike paths, reduced parking options. But the economic traffic, that was not thought through” the Handwerkspräsident criticized.

Mobility is not a secondary issue for the crafts, Dittrich said further. “We have to get to construction sites with material and tools. And if well-paid skilled workers stand in traffic jams or search for parking spaces for hours, it’s just as annoying for the companies as it is for the customers who have to pay for the expensive trip.” He demanded: “City planners and local politicians should always think about the economic traffic, then the mobility transition will be a success for everyone.
