Ticket Price Hike Sparks Debate

The leader of the Green Party’s parliamentary group, Britta Haßelmann, has voiced concerns regarding potential price increases for the Deutschlandticket, a nationwide public transport pass currently priced at €58.

Haßelmann, speaking to RTL and n-tv, stated that raising the price to either €62 or €64 would be detrimental to the ticket’s success. She emphasized the importance of affordability and reliability for the substantial number of users – exceeding 13 million – who depend on the pass for their daily commutes.

Instead of an increase, Haßelmann advocated for a price reduction, suggesting a return to the highly successful €49 model. She indicated a need for a collaborative solution between the federal government and state governments to facilitate such a decrease and ensure the continuation of the program’s positive impact.
