A German President of the German-Israeli Society Criticizes Greta Thunberg’s Gaza Aid Effort
Volker Beck, the President of the German-Israeli Society, has expressed sharp criticism towards climate activist Greta Thunberg and her recent initiative to bring aid to the Gaza Strip on a sailing ship. In an interview with the Rheinische Post, Beck described Thunberg’s actions as a “pitiful exercise in self-heroism.” He emphasized the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating that it is “heart-wrenching” and that all efforts must be made to ensure the provision of essential goods, including food, water and medicine, to the local population.
Beck also took a jab at Thunberg, saying that her “selfie flotilla” does not do justice to the gravity of the situation and added a sarcastic remark about her possibly having enjoyed a sandwich provided by the Israeli Defense Forces. The sailing ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla, set sail from Sicily last Sunday, bound for the Gaza Strip, but was intercepted by the Israeli military just short of its destination.
