In Munich, hundreds of people gathered on Saturday to protest against Russia and express their solidarity with Ukraine.
At the Odeonsplatz, near the venue of the Munich Security Conference, banners with slogans like “More weapons and sanctions – the best arguments” or “Russia is a terrorist state” were on display. On the stage, a papier-mâché figure of Russian President Vladimir Putin in prison garb was set up.
A similar demonstration had taken place a year ago at the Munich Security Conference. Just as then, a mock-up of a small bus, allegedly damaged in the war, was on display.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had called for a joint European army on the conference stage. “We must build the military forces of Europe so that the future of Europe depends only on Europeans and the decisions about Europe are made in Europe” he said in Munich on Saturday.
