The Tragic End of a Pop Icon

German singer AnNa R., born Andrea Neuenhofen, Rosenbaum, has passed away at the age of 55, according to a statement from the band Rosenstolz and her management. The exact circumstances of her death have not been disclosed.

The official Instagram post of the singer reads: “The sudden and unexpected end of our friend and ‘queen’ has shocked and disoriented us deeply. AnNa always modestly referred to herself as a ‘Pop Mouse’.”

The statement is signed by the drummer Manne Uhlig, among others.

Rosenstolz was one of the most successful German pop duos of the post-reunification era. The band, founded in East Berlin, gained popularity with songs such as “Auch im Regen”, “Liebe ist alles” and “Ich bin ich”. Between 1991 and the announced hiatus in 2012, Andrea Rosenbaum and the songwriter/singer Peter Plate released twelve albums, of which five reached the number one spot. Their most successful album, “Das große Leben”, from 2006, spent over two years in the charts.

After the announced hiatus of Rosenstolz in 2012, AnNa R. founded the band Gleis 8, with which she released two albums. She also collaborated with the band Silly in the interim. In recent years, AnNa R. regularly performed with solo projects. Concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland were planned for the fall of 2025.
