Germany’s Social Democratic Party Warns of Potential Iranian Regime Exploitation Amid Refugee Influx

As the number of refugees fleeing Iran following Israeli military attacks continues to rise, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is cautioning that the Iranian regime may attempt to exploit the situation for its own purposes.

SPD’s parliamentary group’s spokesperson, Sebastian Fiedler, told the Stern that, “If people are seeking refuge in Germany, we must, in particular, pay attention to the safety of male refugees as well.” Fiedler emphasized that the party cannot allow the Iranian regime, particularly the Revolutionary Guards, to take advantage of the plight of refugees to smuggle in its own people.

Fiedler also spoke out against the Green Party’s demand for a blanket ban on the deportation of Iranian refugees in Germany. “Last year, only 14 people were deported from Germany to Iran and in the first quarter of this year, it was five” he said. “In any case, each individual case is thoroughly examined to determine whether the person in question faces severe threats, such as death or torture, if deported to their country of origin.” Fiedler believes that, at present, it is hardly possible to deport people to Iran.

The Green Party’s parliamentary group leader, Filiz Polat, had called for an “immediate nationwide ban on deportations to Iran.” “People who have fled to us must be protected from death or persecution and should not be deported to a regime of injustice and a war zone” Polat wrote on the X news service.
