The much-discussed book “The Magician in the Kremlin” by Giuliano da Empoli is now being adapted into a film. The director, Olivier Assayas, has invited actor Jude Law to play the role of Vladimir Putin. In an interview with the industry portal Deadline, the actor said he had already started working on the project, but at the moment, it seems like he’s about to climb Mount Everest.

“I’m standing at the foot of the mountain, looking up, thinking, ‘Oh God, what did I say?’ That’s how I often feel when I agree to something” he said.

At the same time, the 52-year-old actor explained that he enjoys challenges, as they allow him to push himself physically or mentally in his roles.

The news spread like wildfire through the media and social networks, with users reacting with humorous images.

The political thriller “The Magician in the Kremlin” was published as a book in February 2022. In May 2024, Assayas announced the film adaptation. Besides Law, the director has also cast actors Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, Zach Galifianakis, and Tom Sturridge. The premiere date has not been announced yet.
