A controversy surrounding a post by the leader of the Green Youth, Jette Nietzard, has sparked a debate, with the Young Union (JU) calling for the Green Youth to be monitored by the domestic intelligence agency, the Verfassungsschutz.
The JU’s leader, Johannes Winkel, expressed his concerns to the Rheinische Post, stating that the significant support within the Green Youth indicates that the organization should be under surveillance. Winkel also criticized Nietzard’s actions, saying that her behavior has hit rock bottom. He questioned how police officers, who secure Green Party and parliamentary events, can feel, given the anti-police sweater worn by the Green Youth leader.
Furthermore, Winkel expressed concern over the devaluation of democracy and its institutions, a phenomenon typically associated with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. He added that the Green Party must either distance itself from its radical youth organization or abandon its position in the political center.
