German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) can still imagine a renewed coalition with the FDP after the Bundestag election, despite the failure of the Ampel government.
“I don’t have anything general against the FDP. The great thing about democracy is democracy” Scholz said to the “Stern”. “Elections are elections. The citizens decide, and we politicians have to deal with the results.”
He also did not rule out an alliance with the BSW. A coalition with a party that seeks proximity to Russia and leaves Ukraine hanging would be “hard to imagine” he said. There will be no cooperation with the AfD, however. “For me, one thing is clear: I will never enter a coalition with the AfD” he emphasized.
Scholz’s next cabinet would again be set up in a parity of the Social Democrats. In response to a corresponding question, he answered, “Yes.
