In a potential move that could further solidify his international reputation, former German Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, a member of the Green Party, is reportedly set to take on a guest lecturer role at the prestigious University of California, Berkeley. According to a report by the German magazine Focus, the university’s leadership has already internally announced Habeck’s visit from Germany.
Habeck is expected to team up with German economist Ulrike Malmendier, a professor at the university, to deliver a lecture series on the topic of crises. Malmendier, a prominent expert on the German economic system, has been a member of the German Council of Economic Experts since 2022.
When approached for a comment by the Focus, Habeck remained silent, leaving the details of his potential engagement at Berkeley unclear. The move would follow in the footsteps of another prominent German politician, Joschka Fischer, a former Foreign Minister and also a member of the Green Party, who spent time as a guest professor at Princeton University in the United States after the end of his government tenure.
