Artificial Intelligence Holds Promise to Enhance Education, Researchers Say
A new report, released on Friday, outlines the potential of artificial intelligence to enrich the school curriculum, according to researchers from the Universities of Potsdam and Augsburg. The report highlights possibilities such as automated feedback and tailored learning support, provided that the implementation is well-planned and didactically sound.
The scientists emphasize that teachers remain central, even with the integration of AI. The technology should be used to support educators in addressing individual learning needs and freeing them from routine tasks. Moreover, it is crucial that education remains equitable and access to AI applications is not dependent on financial means.
The report recommends political guidelines and uniform data protection standards. Additionally, the authors propose that “AI competence” become a permanent part of school education, encompassing critical handling of text generators and ethical reflection on algorithms. The researchers view AI as a tool, not a magic solution.
