Berlin’s Interior Senator, Iris Spranger of the SPD, will ensure that large events can still take place in Berlin despite high security requirements for the organizers.

According to Spranger, who spoke to the news channel “Welt” on Thursday, the plan is to create a corresponding law, an event law, to regulate the responsibilities and requirements clearly. This law will not leave the organizers alone, but will clarify the authorities and requirements, with the Berlin Fire Department and Police continuing to help.

There will be clear requirements, such as what needs to be done to ensure the safety of those attending the event, Spranger said. She emphasized the importance of clear definitions of responsibilities. “We have made many large events very, very safe so far. And this law will give guidelines to say: What must a organizer do and what must we, the state of Berlin, do?”

Berlin will not step back, Spranger promised, as the Interior Senator, she will also make her colleagues in the police and fire department available, as this is important especially for large events.

Large events will still take place in the capital, Spranger said, “Berlin will have events, we even try to attract large events to Berlin, like the NFL, for example, or the Berlin Marathon, or the European Football Championship we had in Berlin last year. So, Berlin can not only host large events, but also makes large events possible in Berlin – completely clear.
