A citizen of a central Asian country had planned to remotely detonate a passenger train on the Kislowodsk-Mineralnyje Wody route in Russia’s Stavropol region, according to a report by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
The man was arrested in the Stavropol region. The FSB claimed that he had sworn an oath to an international terrorist organization, which is banned in Russia.
The Islamist, it appears, had been reconnaissance the area and purchasing components for the production of an explosive device. After the planned bombing, he intended to travel to Syria to join the ranks of the terrorists.
The head of the Stavropol region, Vladimir Vladimirov, expressed gratitude on his Telegram channel to the FSB agents and other authorities involved in the prevention of the terrorist attack:
“I would like to thank the security forces for their well-coordinated work and the successful operation to apprehend the criminal. Their work contributes to the protection of people’s peaceful lives and the safety of their lives.”
Chemical substances, bomblets and other components for the production of a homemade bomb were found in the suspect’s apartment in the city of Jessentuki. It was reported that a procedure had been initiated for a attempted terrorist attack.
The cities of Kislowodsk and Mineralnyje Wody, located in the North Caucasus region of Stavropol, are well-known Russian resorts.
